Pause for Prayer

By Karen Schoeppach

Are You Hungry?

How often have you said, “I’m hungry!”? Maybe you said you were “starving” or “dying of hunger”. But were you really? Really hungry? Starving? Dying?

If you have ever had to fast for a medical test, you may have experienced some stomach pain or a bit of lightheadedness. But once the test is over, you are able to eat and make these feelings disappear. What is it like for those for whom these feelings are far more intense? People all over the world, all over our country, our state and, yes, our county are experiencing a lack of food (nutritious or not) or food insecurity. They are hungry more often than they are satisfied!

What can we do? How can we help? Where do we start? The best first step is to seek guidance.

God help us to find the ways to change the lives of those who face challenges having not only enough food, but healthy options. Remind us not to pass by any opportunity, no matter how insignificant it may seem. We pray that food is shared and not wasted. We pray that everyone will have access to healthy, affordable food. We reach out to you, O God, with our prayers. Amen.
