Pause for Prayer

Change

As I start to write this, I am looking out at a day that reminds me of fall, although it is still summer. The day is overcast with a hint of rain in the air. While the temperature is warm, it’s cooler than it has been. I have pulled on jeans and a sweatshirt. This is but a reminder that before long there will be a change of season.

Change. Sometimes it is welcome, but on occasion change is a worrisome thing. We were fine with things as they were. What if we don’t like the change? What if we can’t go back, undo, or rewind? Change – remove the “g” and replace it with a “c” and the word is “chance”. A chance to learn something new. A chance to make a new friend. A chance for new experiences.

Dear God,

For some of us change is something to be feared. We don’t feel comfortable when faced with an unknown. A new job, a new town, a new school, or even a new neighbor. Is cause for worry. We pray for confidence to go forward when we experience change. Help us to be open to what lies ahead and know that You will be beside us through it all. Just as You bring us changing seasons, God, You bring us life changes and chances. Faith in You will ease our way. Amen.
